Farewell
to DVDs

As a movie fan (AIM screenname: movieboy7), I have a complicated and deeply personal relationship with physical media. I've bought the same movies across VHS, DVD, HD-DVD (oops), Blu-Ray, 4K and iTunes — and I'd do it again.

So when Netflix shipped its final red envelope on September 29, 2023 — closing out 25 years and 5.2 billion discs — I wanted the farewell to feel earned. Not corporate. Not a press release. A real goodbye from people who genuinely loved what those little red envelopes meant.

The campaign film, set to Blink-182's All the Small Things, traced the full arc: from loading menus and scratched discs to mail trucks and Netflix's very first shipment (Beetlejuice, 1998). It's Nice That, Deadline, Variety, The Hollywood Reporter and TODAY all covered it. We also spelled out "DVDs Will Always Be In Our DNA" on the Sunset Blvd marquee — in real red envelopes.
